There are various techniques to create the smoky eye effect. This article will discuss a few tips to create a perfect smoky eye. First of all, there is no single colour rule for a smoky eye. Any colour can be used to achieve this look. But it is necessary to choose three different shades of colours- a light coloured shade to make your eyes glazy, a medium shade base colour and lastly, a dark shade to give the smoky appearance. The light colour appears in the inner corner of the eye lids, towards the nose. The darker colours are applied towards the outer corner of the eyes. Although the most popular colours used for the timeless smoky eye are black, brown or grey, other hues like plum, green can also be used to get a smoky look.
For creating a smoky eye, it is suggested to use powdery eye shades as these are always easier to blend. Before applying the makeup for the smoky eye, it is important to remember to prepare your eye lids with a concealer to hide any pigmentation. Applying an eye shadow primer ensures the smoky eye look stay longer in place.
After preparing the eyes and applying the facial make up, it is time to start with the smoky eye. First of all, use the lightest of the three colour shades, called the highlighter to dab it along the inner corner of your eye lids as well as under the eyebrows to make the eye look naturally bright. Now use the second shade that is slightly darker than the highlighter and apply it on the middle section of your eyelids. Use a brush to blend the first shade of the highlighter with the next darker shade, to give a smooth appearance. Apply the shade under your eyebrows till the crease of your eyes and mix with the layer of the highlighter under the brows. Last comes the darkest shade of the smoky eye. Apply this shade from the outer and upper edge of your eyelashes towards the inner corner. However, the dark shade is not supposed to go far into the inner corner of your eye lids. Spread it only till the half or one-third of your eyelids from the outer edge. Use a brush to blend in the three shades so that there does not appear to be a stark division between the three colours. The darkest shade must always stay at the outermost edge of the eyelashes. You can apply the shade in a C-shaped or an angled shape to give an even more dramatic appearance to your eyes. The eye shades may even have a slight shimmer to add to the glittery look for a party or occasion.
Once complete with the smoky shades, use an intense black eyeliner to give a defined look to your eye lashes. Apply mascara to make your eyes look more prominent and bigger. Use a Kajal or eye liner on your lower eyelashes too. A smoky eye can also be attained by adding the darkest shade on the line of the eyelashes.
Use good quality and clean brushes for your eye makeup. In case of your excess makeup or any stray marks, remove it with a large brush. And that all you need to do to get the perfect smoky eye.
